How to take care of your leather

Congratulations! You’ve invested in a leather Sam Brown bag or belt. You’ve made a great decision. All our products are made from English A Grade leather.

Not only can you be sure that both the materials and processes that have made up your bag or belt are kind to the environment, they’ve also been refined over generations to ensure that the products you get are robust and fit for purpose.

So, while your belt or bag might cost a little more than you’d find on the high street, you’ll be able to enjoy it for much longer.

So, remember, try not to get your leather wet. If it does get wet

  • Let it dry naturally, don’t put it on a radiator
  • Once it’s dry, replace the oils using Neatsfoot Oil
  • Apply in small circles using a soft cotton cloth or t-shirt
  • Leave it to dry and absorb
  • Take off any residue with a clean cotton cloth

For thicker dark coloured 4mm leather (the sort we use for belts) you can treat scrapes with a little shoe polish. Again, rub in circles and leave to absorb. The pigment in the polish will treat any scrapes and the wax will reseal the leather.

Update on Hand Sanitiser - after using hand sanitiser make sure your hands have dried off before touching your leather accessory as it contains alcohol which can discolour and ruin leather.
